The next Avatar.
Still better than that piece of shit movie…
Earth is the element of substance. The people of the Earth Kingdom are diverse and strong. They are persistent and enduring.
Happy Earth(bending) Day!

Why was Korra hated for rightfully chewing out Tenzin for him and the OWL locking her away? Sure, she got some great training as a result but she was sheltered from having a real life. I think Avatar Yangchen said something to Aang about the Avatar experiencing humanity. Too bad the OWL didn't know that.
Well, I’ve already talked about what I think of people hating Korra for those reasons, but sheltering Korra like that was… obviously a really terrible thing to do. Not only did it prevent her from gaining experience and knowledge of the real world, it also damaged her emotional and social development.
Like every other child, her social skills, self-understanding and identity was created through her experience with others - the people surrounding Korra were mostly just adults who all had mile high expectations of her, and basically viewed her as a tool; at least if we are to take her firebending test as an indication, she was treated like crap from everyone except Katara (and probably her parents, who genuinely love her). She was “The Avatar” and was expected to exceed at everything, but who had no agency or right to speak for herself, and therefore no experience actually making decisions or self-reflecting. This is not a healthy way of growing up, you don’t get a child with a healthy self perception from such a childhood, OK.
Basically if you hate Korra for being how she is, but instantly forgives characters like Zuko, (the Snape, Draco Malfoy, Loki types in general) because of their ‘tragic backstories, poor bbies’, then I don’t wanna hear it - and that has nothing to do with disliking the narrative or the writing.
ETA: Korra is important to a lot of people, not only because she’s a brown, muscular female protagonist, but because she’s a person who was brought up in a very toxic environment that formed her self-perception and made her internalize a lot of unhealthy self-destructive views about herself and the world around her, and which heavily formed her life and tried to settle her path in life for her. Some of this was directly caused by the people closest to her - who, yes, loves her, but still hurt her, and she is allowed to stand up to them about that, and she’s allowed to not take all of this submissively and gracefully.
Her story is about breaking free of that, of regaining and rediscovering yourself and ultimately being able to stand on your own feet. She’s allowed to be angry, she’s allowed to be broken, she’s allowed to make mistakes, she’s allowed to fail, she’s allowed to - eventually - make her own decisions in her own goddamn life and be a fucking awesome goodqueen who kicks ass - be the person she was always told to be but couldn’t be bc of people’s expectations but ultimately became on her own because that is who Korra is. I think a lot of people relate to that on some level or another, and find it really empowering and inspiring… at least it’s part of why I love her so much, (there’s a lot of reasons tho).
you’re the first face that i see
